UPSC Geo-Scientist Exam 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification 

  • Geologist Group A (Cat-I): Master degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science.
  • Geophysicist Group A (Cat-I): Master Degree in Science in Following Stream Physics / Applied Physics / Geophysics / Marine Geophysics or equivalent.
  • Chemist Group A (Cat-I): Master Degree in Science M.Sc Chemistry / Applied Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Scientist B (Hydrogeology/Chemical/Geophysics) Group A (Cat-II): Master degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or equivalent.
  • Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group ‘B’: Master’s degree in Geology or applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology or equivalent.
  • Assistant Chemist, Group ‘B’: Master degree of Science or Integrated Master of Science in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry or Physical Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry or Organic Chemistry or Hydro-Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry.
  • Assistant Geophysicist, Group ‘B’: M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics).
Age Limit 

Eligibility Criteria by Age is effective from 1 January 2025. The eligible age range for candidates starts at 21 years and caps at 32 years. It means applicants should have a birth date between 2 January 1993 and 1 January 2004. Additionally, age relaxations will be granted by established regulations.

Application Fee

The application fee is Rs 200. However, there is no charge for women, SC, ST, and individuals with Benchmark Disabilities. Fees can be paid at any State Bank of India branch or through Visa, MasterCard, RuPay credit/debit cards, UPI transactions, or via any bank’s online banking services.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Selection Process

UPSC CGS Recruitment 2025 Selection Procedure follows successive stages as shown below. Candidates have to qualify in each stage to appear in the next stage(s) of the selection process.

  1. 1.Preliminary examination: 400 marks
  2. 2.Main written examination: 600 marks
  3. 3.Interview: 200 marks
  4. 4.Document verification
  5. 5.Medical fitness test

How to Apply UPSC CGS 2025 Online Application Form?

Applicants need to register online. For individuals applying for the first time, it’s necessary to undergo a One-Time Registration (OTR) process, a prerequisite required just once. Applicants who have already registered can proceed to complete their exam application directly. Alterations to the OTR details are permissible only once and must be finalized by 1 October 2024 for those applying for this particular exam. After submission, it’s impossible to retract an application. Candidates must submit only a single application; in instances where multiple submissions are detected, only the application with the higher Registration ID (RID) will be acknowledged. Government employees must notify their respective Head of Office/Department about their application submission.
